They looked at each other with stupid grins on their faces before Jared plunged back in for a searing kiss which rapidly went from heated to frantic. Jared broke the kiss and pulled off the fitted sweater he was wearing revealing miles of tanned skin and the hard planes of his muscular chest and abs and Jensen’s mouth watered. Jesus, he was gorgeous – he looked better than a lot of the guys that Jensen worked with and he couldn’t wait to get his hands – and mouth – on him.
He was unbuttoning his own shirt as he dived in to lick over one of Jared’s nipples causing the man to release an almost full body shudder. He’d just finally got the buttons of his own shirt undone and pulled off with a little help when Jared’s phone rang.
“Aw, shit,” Jared whined. “Hold that thought for just a sec.” He reached into the pocket of his jeans and looked at the display of his phone.
“Sorry man, I have to take this.”
Jensen gestured for him to go ahead and began kissing the long tanned neck as Jared answered. After the initial hello Jared tensed so Jensen stopped what he was doing, sat back and looked at the other man’s face. He looked furious.
“Bastards!” he spat, “...yeah, I can be there in twenty. How many?"
Jensen couldn’t hear the other end of the conversation but knew whatever it was it wasn’t good and obviously Jared had to leave. He picked up his shirt and started buttoning it back up.
“Yeah, sure, don’t worry I’m on my way.”
He hung up the phone and took a few breaths obviously trying to calm himself before he spoke.
“Jensen, I’m really sorry but I’ve just been called in for an emergency surgery. The cops broke up an illegal dog fight and both dogs are in a bad way. Jeff’s already on his way in but they’ll need both of us if we have any chance of saving them.”
“Oh God, that’s horrible! Sure, it’s fine, you do what you gotta do, I can catch a cab home.”
Jared was already on his feet stripping off the jeans he was wearing while opening a drawer to pull out an old pair with rips in the knees and a hoodie. Jensen’s breath caught in his throat and he couldn’t take his eyes off the vision that was Jared, all long legs, slim hips and muscles in just a pair of black boxer briefs. He shook his head to clear it as Jared began to redress and sit on the bed to put on a pair of sneakers.
“Shit, I’m really sorry. I was having a really great time. Can I...I mean will I see you again?”
“Absolutely and don’t apologise. You’re a doc and this is what you do.”
Damn, Jensen liked this man so it was probably a good thing that they had been interrupted even though he hated that it was because animals had been injured. He wasn’t a prude and had no problem with sex on the first date but he really liked Jared and even though he felt stupid thinking it, he knew if he had and then found that he was a jealous or controlling douche like other guys he had dated it would actually hurt if they slept together and he had to cut him loose. He was definitely going to put his previous plan into action.
“Listen I have a show on Thursday night at the Poison Ivy, I’d love it if you came along as my guest. You’ve only seen me work at the party; you should come and see me do my thing on a stage at the club. I’d invite you to Saturday night’s show but it’s ladies night and man, you do not want to be in amongst that mob. They’d eat you alive.”
Jared chuckled as he stood, putting his hands on Jensen’s hips. “I’d love to. I’m sorry I don’t have time to take you home, this is a really sucky way to end a great first date.”
“It really was a great date and I told you a cab is perfectly fine. You’re in a hurry so I’ll just call one and I can wait outside until it gets here. I’ll call you tomorrow and give you the details.”
He made the call as Jared rushed to bring Cinder inside. Once he’d locked up the back door and Jensen had finished his call, Jared pulled Jensen into another burning kiss.
“Fuck, I wish I didn’t have to go. Just wait inside for the cab, the door will lock automatically when you pull it closed. I mean it, I had a great night but I really gotta run.”
“Go, it’s fine. The cab should be here anytime and yeah, tonight really was amazing.”
With that, Jared snagged his keys thanking his lucky stars that he’s only had two beers and was fine to ride and to perform surgery. He wasn’t on call but these things happened every now and then and it was part of the reason he never really drank that much. He leaned forward and gently pressed his lips to Jensen’s in a quick chaste kiss then touched their foreheads together.
“I’ll call you tomorrow and thanks...for being so understanding and for a wonderful night.”
Jensen smiled and shoved him toward the door. “I should be thanking you, now go. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”
As he heard the bike speed off down the road he looked down at Cinder who had plonked herself by his feet. “Your daddy is an amazing guy, you know that?” Cinder huffed out a small woof in reply.

When Jared finally had a chance to talk to Chad on Tuesday he asked if his friends had actually gone through with firing, Paul, David and Michael.
“Man, you should’ve been there, Kris and I called them all in to break the news and Paul and David both went ballistic. Michael looked like he was about to lose his lunch – not sure if I’ve ever seen anyone that shade of green before.”
“So what happened?”
“Kris was furious when I told him what had happened. It was all I could do to stop him going in on Monday and beating them to death with a two by four. Paul did what you expected, he threatened to bring in lawyers for unfair dismissal, said you were quote, “a lying sack of shit” until I countered by threatening to bring in the cops so he could tell his tale of woe to them. David made a lot of noise about it not being the end of it but shit, man, what did they expect I’d do? They fucking assaulted someone in my home and after I’d considered them friends not just employees, how could they expect me not to be pissed.”
“Guys like that think everyone is like them – assholes. So did you fire them on the spot and what about Michael?"
“We gave them two weeks severance pay, which is pretty fucking generous if you ask me and told them I wanted them out right then and there. Um...you’re probably going to be pissed at us about Michael.”
“Why?” Jared asked cautiously.
“The dude started crying and begging us for a second chance and saying he was sorry and he was so drunk he didn’t really know what he was doing. Kris wanted to toss him out on his ass after the others stormed out of the office but I wanted to hear him out. He could be a bit of a dick sometimes but he was always like a different person whenever the other two weren’t around so I listened to what he had to say.”
Chad explained that Michael told him David had been plying him with ridiculous amounts of alcohol all night and goading him into keeping up. When Paul suggested they have a bit of fun with the stripper and said that he had organized that they could take turns with him, his booze addled brain just went along with it all and that it hadn’t been until Jared had screamed at them about trying to rape Jensen that reality crashed in. He’d said he was disgusted with himself and he’d never done anything remotely like that before and that he was confused about his sexuality because he thought he might actually be gay but could never deal with it. He’d told the older men about it and thought that’s why they’d arranged for him to have sex with the stripper. Chad had felt a little sorry for him and after he and Kris discussed it they gave him an ultimatum. If he was seriously remorseful and wanted to keep his job then he would have to personally apologize to Jensen – if Jensen agreed to speak with him – go on official probation at work and Chad advised him on a personal note to talk to a professional about his sexuality conflict.
Jared didn’t much like the idea of asking Jensen if he’d agree to the apology but understood where Chad was coming from. Chad had been bullied mercilessly when he was younger about his sexuality and he knew that he felt empathy for someone who was struggling with his own and being pressured by two older and much more forceful personalities. He still thought there was no excuse for what Michael had done and didn’t think he deserved forgiveness but he understood how Michael’s confession would have affected Chad. At least with Paul and David out of the picture Chad would be able to gauge Michael’s true personality without their influence on him. He agreed to let Jensen know and leave the ball in his court. If he didn’t want to speak with one of his attackers then he was going to make damn sure that nobody would try and force the issue or make him feel bad for it.
When Jared did speak to Jensen about it the following day over the phone, the man wasn’t angry at Chad but refused to meet with Michael. He said if Chad wanted an apology issued as a term to Michael’s continued employment then it could be a written one although he didn’t know whether he would be able to actually read it. Jared told Chad and Kris his decision and both agreed that it was fine and that they could completely understand Jensen’s point of view.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Thursday night rolled around both Jared and Jensen were nervous but for very different reasons. Jensen was worried about how Jared would react to seeing him working since they’d been on an extremely successful date and both had confessed to having feelings toward each other and Jared was nervous because Jensen had told him that his friend Chris was going to be there and he knew the man didn’t approve of him being anywhere near Jensen.
When Jared gave his name at the door he was escorted to a table at the front of the stage and told that Jensen would be the second act up and would meet with him after his performance. A young blonde twink wearing lycra hotpants and a bow tie took his drink order but he was more than a little surprised when it wasn’t the waiter who returned with his soda, it was Chris.
“Mind if I sit?”
Before he even had a chance to reply, the man sat across the table from him not even trying to suppress the glare and placed the drink down; hard enough that it sloshed over the edge of the glass. Jared only just prevented himself from rolling his eyes. He understood that Chris was protective of his friend but Jared had done nothing to hurt Jensen, in fact he’d protected him and he refused to allow himself to be intimidated.
“I don’t know what your problem is with me. I like Jensen, a lot, and despite what you might think I only wanted to help him so you can either tone down the hostility or go sit somewhere else. I’m not stalking Jensen, he invited me.”
“I manage this place so I’ll sit wherever I damn well please and you really don’t know what my problem is? Your Goddamn pals tried to rape my best friend so excuse me for thinking, you hang out with assholes like that, you’re probably an asshole too. When Jensen told me you were coming I tried to talk him out of it but he said you’re a good guy. I sincerely doubt it and I can’t control who Jensen chooses to see but you listen and you listen good, you hurt him and you’ll be in a world of pain do hear me?” He leaned forward and practical growled the last bit.
Jared bit back what was on the tip of his tongue, which was to tell Chris to go fuck himself and took a breath before speaking.
“Not that I need to explain myself to you but those guys were not my friends and they are no longer friends of the person that invited them to the party. None of us had any idea anything like that was going to happen. I don’t really care what you think of me I only care about what Jensen thinks of me and I have no intention of hurting him. Like I said, I really like him and if things go the way I hope they will then I’m going to be around him a lot more so you’d better learn to deal with it. I appreciate you wanting to protect your friend but save the attack dog act. You may be Jensen’s friend and you may think I’m an asshole but from where I’m standing all I’m seeing is a totally judgmental dick who can’t even give his best friend enough credit for being smart enough to be able to make his own decision about whether someone is a good person or not.”
Chris sat back in his seat and, still glaring, took a drink from his beer and then his face broke open on a wide grin. “Well, you may not be such an asshole after all. I’ll still kick your ass if you hurt him.”
Jared smiled back, “And you may not be such a dick after all. By the way, we both know I could snap you like a twig.”
Chris threw his head back and laughed, “Yeah, gigantor, you most likely could.”
Even though both men were still incredibly wary of one another they fell into conversation with Chris asking about Jared’s work at the animal shelter and Jared asking how long Chris and Jensen had been friends. The tension was beginning to bleed away as the club lights dimmed further and the emcee announced the first performance of the night, a tall, incredibly good looking blonde introduced as Flyboy.
The guy’s dancing was great and he was more than easy on the eye but Jared was watching the crowd as much as he was watching Flyboy’s performance. The men at the adjacent tables were waving bills around, some throwing them onto the stage and others tucking the notes into the scrap of material that barely constituted a g-string. Most were good natured and many were already drunk but for the most part they were reasonably well behaved. But it kind of sickened him to hear snatches of the conversation over at the next table where an incredibly boorish loudmouth was telling his friend just exactly what he’d like to do to the dancer in very graphic detail. It wasn’t so much the words, as loathsome as they were, it was the intensity and almost cruel set of his mouth that made Jared nervous. He also heard as the man flagged someone over and pushed a wad of cash into his hand as he organized a private lap dance from Flyboy for later. It made Jared shudder.
He leaned over to Chris and asked if all the dancers gave lap dances.
“Why, you interested in getting a little of Flyboy for yourself?” he sneered.
“What? Jesus, no, it was just a question.”
“Yeah, all of the dancers give them, some are more expensive than others so it doesn’t happen every night for every dancer.”
“Can the dancers refuse someone?”
“Of course. We gonna have a problem here if Jensen’s services are purchased? Are you expecting him to turn down work?” This was something Chris knew Jensen was worried about and one of the major reasons he’d invited Jared to the club. He’d had guys throw a jealous fit more than once in the past.
“Of course not, it’s his job!” This time he did roll his eyes. “Are they done out here at the tables?”
“So you wanna get off watching Jensen grind on someone?” He asked with derision. “Well you’re outta luck, the private dances are done in booths out back.
“Fuck, no! Jesus Christ, you’re an obnoxious prick. It’s just...see the guy in red at the table next to us?” Chris nodded. “I can hear some of what he’s saying to his friend and I don’t think this Flyboy wants to let this guy anywhere near him. The stuff he’s saying is some pretty sick shit.”
The conversation ground to a halt as Flyboy finished his set to the sound of thunderous applause and catcalling. When the noise level abated Chris asked with smirk, “So you’re worried about the virtue of a dancer you’ve never met? I hate to break it to you Jared but half the guys here are perverts who have sick little fantasies about the performers. Justin can take care of himself and we have bouncers and rules – the customers aren’t allowed to touch the merchandise.”
“I’m not worried about his ‘virtue’, I’m worried about his safety. This guy was talking about wanting to cut him up while he fucked him. That sound like one of the normal little fantasies?” He said much more quietly now that the music level was no longer deafening.
Chris’s gaze went from Jared to the man in question. The dude was obviously loaded from the Rolex he was wearing to the Cristal he was drinking and he did look like a sleazebag, but so did at least half of the clientele here.
“Okay, stay here and I’ll give Justin a heads up and make sure one of the bouncers is within grabbing distance when he does his private show but the guy isn’t stupid enough to pull a stunt in here so Justin’ll be okay. Just to be on the safe side I’ll make sure he’s escorted to his car when he leaves tonight. A guard usually watches them leave from the back door but I’ll make sure it’s a little more tonight.”
It made Jared feel better that Chris had finally listened to him and it sounded like they had some pretty good measures in place to protect the performers which made him feel a lot better about Jensen. For all he knew they dealt with this sort of shit all the time and Jensen had been doing this for years but he could still picture the man frightened and crying for help on the floor at Chad’s place, so sue him if he felt a little protective.
A few minutes later Chris was back giving him a nod to let him know it was taken care of when the lights went down and the emcee announced the next performer, Jax. The stage was completely dark until the spotlight fell revealing Jensen who was faced toward the back of the stage, he was wearing a fedora, black pants and a trenchcoat. There was the sound of thunder rumbling and he popped open an umbrella and began to whistle a tune that Jared’s immediately recognized. The dancers’ pole had been rigged further up with a soft light to make it resemble a lamp post. ‘Singing in the Rain’ began to play and Jared watched mesmerized as Jensen began to dance, not exotic dancer dancing but real honest to God dance including some tap and it was wonderful. Small droplets of water were cascading from above as Jensen swung around the pole doing an almost perfect imitation of Gene Kelly. The umbrella was tossed off stage and the next item to go was the trenchcoat. Underneath was a white shirt and black pants. The white shirt that was plastered wetly to the beautifully defined chest came off slowly which looked incredibly erotic but with a touch of innocence which was due to the nature of dancing which would have looked more at home on a Broadway stage – well except for the pieces of clothing being removed.
Jensen danced toward the front of the stage and then stopped, gave a wink in Jared’s direction and as he ripped of the pants, there was another sound of thunder and the soft lights changed to bright colors as the music changed to ‘It’s Raining Men’. The entire style of dance changed as Jensen hurtled toward the pole, swinging around and undulating his hips as the crowd erupted. Jared let out a joyful laugh as the entire mood on stage turned from sweet and seductive to playful and downright pure unadulterated sex. The moves Jensen made as he swung on the hastily dried off pole should’ve been illegal.
Chris wasn’t watching the performance, he’d seen it before and male strippers weren’t really his thing anyway; he watched Jared’s reactions instead. The guy looked like a kid at Christmas; full of delight and his eyes never wavered from being fixed entirely on Jensen. The true test would come in less than thirty seconds when Jensen made his way to the front of the stage for the crowd of money waving men to begin stuffing the glittery g-string full of cash and trying to get in a good grope wherever possible. This was where Jensen’s past string of dates had usually lost their cool but when Jensen was waggling his ass and his barely covered crotch to receive his tips Jared was laughing and seeming completely amused by the whole thing. He winced once or twice when the bouncers had to pull a couple of over-enthusiastic guys back from the stage when they got a little too grabby but never seemed to lose his good humor.
Chris noticed the same time Jared did when the guy in charge was waved over to a table for someone to buy a private dance. Jared looked over at Chris and just shrugged. To say Chris was surprised was an understatement. He knew that Jensen had told him he wasn’t doing any paid private dances tonight but Jared didn’t. When he thought the guy had purchased a lapdance his demeanor never faltered and Chris thought that either Jared really was cool about the stripping or he really didn’t care enough about Jensen for it to bother him. He just had to work out which.
When Jensen finished, Jared jumped to his feet like everyone else and joined in the applause. He was grinning like a loon after Jensen exited the stage and the lights came back up which made Chris chuckle.
“Wow, he’s like...wow! I had no idea he could dance that well. That was awesome!”
“He’s the favorite here for a reason; he really knows how to put on a show. I’ve gotta get back to work. If you head over there – he pointed to a curtained off area – that pretty little brunette will take you to a booth where Jensen will meet you in around twenty. Just let her know what you’d like to drink and she’ll bring it for you. See you a little later, man.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chris met up with Jensen backstage as planned.
“So why were you sitting with him? You didn’t hassle him did you? I asked you to watch for his reactions not give the guy a hard time.”
Jensen had flopped into a chair and was alternating toweling off the sweat and chugging from a bottle of Gatorade.
“Well yeah I did give him a bit of a hard time but he gave as good as he got. I guess it’s hard to intimidate a giant.”
Jensen was equal parts amused that Jared didn’t find Chris threatening when almost everybody else did and majorly pissed that he’d even tried to intimidate him. He decided on a scowl.
“Shit, Chris. I told you I really like him. Can you not try and scare off the one decent guy I’ve met in forever. So come one, spill.”
“Well the boy seemed to really like the show and not so much the way most guys do. He wasn’t leering through the act, he seemed kind of...dazzled. He said your dancing was amaaaaaazing.” Chris batted his eyelashes and made a swoony face.
“Shaddup!” He punched Chris in the arm, hard. “So how’d he go at the end?”
“He laughed, like it amused the hell out of him that the crowd was clamoring to shove money into your sweaty jock.” When Jensen made a little huh noise, he added, “Mikey was waved over so some guy could buy a dance and he shrugged like it was no big deal. Maybe the guy doesn’t like you as much as you think; he didn’t seem fazed at all.”
“You didn’t mention I wasn’t taking privates tonight?” Chris shook his head in the negative. “Well maybe, he’s just as cool about it as he says he is.”
“Meh, maybe.”
“You still don’t like him do you?”
“I like him good enough I suppose, I just don’t trust him and neither should you,” Chris said with a frown.
“Justin told me about the extra security because of his private customer, he also told me it was because the person you were sitting with told you the guy seemed like he might be a threat. So was it Jared that said something?”
“Yeah, he overheard some shit from the next table.”
“Uh huh, so he tried to protect one of us and you still think he can’t be trusted. You have issues, man. What’s he gotta do to prove to you that he’s a good guy? Why’s it so hard to believe he’s genuine? I’ve spent a little time with, Chris, and my instincts tell me he’s on the level.”
“Yeah well,” he looked sheepish, “he sorta told me that I don’t give you enough credit for being able to judge someone’s character.”
Jensen burst out laughing at that. “Well see, he’s not only nice and hot, he’s obviously smart too!” He waggled his eyebrows when Chris snorted. “You didn’t tell him what I have planned did you?”
“Nah, I just told him Kristen would seat him at a private booth and that you’d meet him there. He probably thinks it’s so you can have somewhere a little quieter to talk, I doubt it’d even cross his mind that he’s gonna get his own private. Kid doesn’t strike me as being too bright.”
“You’re an asshole.”
“And you’d better get a move on before he gets bored and tries to pick up something better looking than your ugly mug.”
“I’m pretty and you love me.” Jensen replied while making an exaggerated pout.
“In your dreams, sunshine.”

When Jensen stepped into the booth wearing only a pair of tight hot pants and body oil, Jared looked a little startled but recovered quickly obviously thinking that it was maybe some sort of club requirement for the dancers to walk around mostly naked. When he went to get up to greet Jensen with a hug and was told to stay put, he looked confused, that is until Jensen slid the table out of the way and the music clicked on and Jensen could see the moment the light bulb went off in Jared’s head. His look had gone from confused to surprised to one with so much heat, it could pretty much strip the paint off the walls. Oh yeah, this was going to be fun.

Date: 2013-11-19 04:14 am (UTC)There's a sick part of me that's hoping creepy Christopher Heyerdahl will make an appearance in this fic, just because he played Alastair so well that I LOVE to read him in almost anything where he's being creepy. lol.
Hopefully we get to see the lap dance in the next chapter? Otherwise you might need to run and hide after all. lol.
