HOLY SHEET!
Feb. 23rd, 2015 04:57 pmAs most of you know, I've been in another city looking after my mother after a car accident. I've just returned home after seven weeks to attend a doctor's appointment and to pick up more clothing only to find my front door has been kicked in, the frame smashed to pieces, and plaster all over the floor...and a police attendance card sitting on my kitchen table! Nothing is missing that I can see and I'm waiting for the cops to call me back to tell me what the hell happened. Whatever it was, it happened on the 16th.
I don't appear to have been robbed. My 50 inch flat screen TV, my DVR, iPod, tablet, and valuables are all where they should be so I'm baffled. I can't even imagine. Faaaark, on top of everything else I'm now going to have to see if the building insurance will cover the damage (which I hope it does because I don't have any money to pay for it), and I don't have the time to get everything repaired as I have to be back in Canberra tomorrow night. Mum's house move is looming and I have to pack up her entire house! I can't for the life of me understand why my landlord wasn't informed so they could contact me.
I swear I'm cursed. I thought the Winchesters had bad luck but I think I'd give them a run for their money. I think I'm going to cry now.
UPDATE: Apparently there was a very nasty and disturbing smell in the building, and my neighbours, who know I'm ill and who hadn't seen me or my cat in weeks, thought I'd snuffed it inside my apartment and called the cops. The cops broke the door down expecting to find me decomposing in my bed!! They didn't find the source of the smell that was permeating the halls and think maybe a rat died in the crawlspace under the building. My life is one step away from being the plotline of a D grade comedy movie.

Date: 2015-02-23 06:35 am (UTC)Maybe they got disturbed bashing the door in and ran off???
Re the insurance. You mention a landlord, so I assume you are renting??? If so, surely the landlord's insurance should cover the damaged door and they would arrange repairs.
Sending good thoughts and positive vibes your way. Take care, ok???

Date: 2015-02-23 06:40 am (UTC)Yes, it was a horrible thing to come home to, but now at least I know it wasn't an attempted burglary. Thanks so much for your hugs!!

Date: 2015-02-23 07:14 am (UTC)Good to hear the door damage had a less serious reason but surely the cops could have gotten contact details for you from the landlord?? Did they at least try and resecure the property?
And you have caring neighbours. A tenant in govt housing here in Perth died and wasn't found for over a year, despite neighbours reporting not seeing him and a very bad smell coming from his unit. State housing folk should have done inspections every few months but, because they couldn't contact the tenant to set a date/time, they just skipped them.
Perhaps let the neighbours know when you are going away next time and give them a contact number? I'll be doing that when I go the US in November.

Date: 2015-02-23 07:33 am (UTC)I was in such a state of panic and worry when I left that it never occurred to me to tell the neighbours I was leaving. I only know them enough to say hi to in passing in the hallway so I'm quite surprised they were worried about me. They only know I'm sick because they've seen me on my bad days when it's really obvious that I'm not healthy. I've seen all of the horror stories of people being dead for months or even years without anyone knowing so it does restore my faith in people that they actually reported it.

Date: 2015-02-23 07:18 am (UTC)Thank god nothing was taken, and that it was in the interest of trying to help but seriously! Why didn't they contact the landlord because he could've contacted you! O_O

Date: 2015-02-23 08:33 am (UTC)Christ. Well, I hope it gets fixed ASAP and they find out where the smell is coming from : )
Also I sent you an email....wasn't sure if you got it as you're in transit and all.
Hope you're okay, Hunny! ♥ xx

Date: 2015-02-23 08:53 am (UTC)I just spoke with a guy from upstairs that told me they discovered what the smell was a couple of days ago. The guy across the hall mustn't have known. My next door neighbour was on holidays in Cambodia and his deep freezer broke. Being the middle of summer here all of the meat began rotting - eeew!
I just got your email and will respond after Supernatural. We finally get The Executioner's Song episode tonight. Hoorah!!! I hate being behind and I heard it was great. I have chips, I have vodka and now I have Sam and Dean. My day is about to improve :)
Mwah xx

Hope you're enjoying Supernatural. I've got it on right now too! :)

Date: 2015-02-23 11:48 am (UTC)I'm going to leave it in the hands of my property manager. He can kick their arses and demand payment if that's what the owner wants. Normally I would be all over it but I have too much on my plate already and I'm only here until tomorrow afternoon and then I have to get back to mum. It seems terribly unprofessional of the police but after my recent dealings with the police force after mum's accident, I can't say I'm the least bit surprised. I've lost total faith in their professionalism.

Date: 2015-02-23 12:22 pm (UTC)I've chilled out about it now. There's no point in getting all tied up in knots. In the scheme of things this is a minor hiccup that my landlord can deal with. I just wish they'd cleaned up the mess!

Date: 2015-02-23 12:22 pm (UTC)No one could put up a piece of plywood while you were gone?? ETA: Read more about the damage and how it was left in comments. Gotcha.
Jeez, things need to settle down for you *HUGS*

Date: 2015-02-23 01:11 pm (UTC)Still, I imagine it was quite a shock. And totally unnecessary if only they'd tried to get in touch with you. I really hope for an uneventful trip back to your mom's place.

I am surprised they didn't fix the freaking door, or the building manager didn't fix it, it's not like this was self inflicted. They do still have locksmiths where you live right?
((HUGS))

Date: 2015-02-23 02:38 pm (UTC)I need to send Sam to talk to the police. If there's a key, then there has to be a lock...or in my case if there's a lock, then there has to be a key. LOL!
((Hugs you back))

Date: 2015-02-23 06:23 pm (UTC)I have dealt with a freezer that got unplugged, unnoticed, by accident, and oh, ewww. I understand why your neighbors were worried. But yeah, they should have thought of the guy who would, you know, have a key.
Safe trip back to mum's, and a guick and easy move and settle for you both.
