Pairing/characters: Jared/Jensen, Chris Kane, Travis Wester, Chad Lindburg, Amber Benson
Disclaimer: The actors belong to themselves, I've just cast them in roles. The only thing I own is the story.
Author's Notes: I'm deeply sorry for the extended hiatus on this fic. I have been extremely unwell, and although I'm still not good, it's not fair to leave everyone hanging. I'm going to try my best to update once a week. I can't set a scheduled day as my health is far too unpredictable but it won't go over two weeks between chapters, even if I have to write the damn thing from my sick bed. For those that have asked, the picture of Jensen in the banner is a manipulation I made and it's not Jensen's body but that of a model. No offense intended to Jensen.
When they arrived at the coffee house the following morning, Jensen lit up like a Christmas tree. He was so animated as he showed Jared around and told him all of the things he plans to do with the place when it would finally be his in a little under twelve months time. He was introduced to the current owner, Lauren and two wait-staff. Chad, who saluted him with a, “whaddup?” And Amber who greeted him with a mischievous smile – he instantly liked her. Then he was introduced to the barista, Travis, who was extremely polite on introduction but scowled and gave him the hairy eyeball the minute Jensen’s back was turned – he wasn’t quite sure what to make of that. They had an incredibly delicious breakfast but it was difficult for Jared to focus on anything other than Jensen because the man’s enthusiasm was infectious and delightful and it made Jared’s stomach flip.
Before they left Jensen excused himself to use the bathroom and Jared walked over to get a better look at the art hanging on the walls. It was another of Jensen’s ideas, local artists could hang and sell their work there. He was particularly engrossed in a stunning landscape and leaned in closer to look at the detail. When he stepped back he lightly bumped into Travis who had chosen that moment to step out from behind the counter. When he apologized Travis looked him up and down, sneered and mumbled, “Fuckin’ asshole” under his breath which left Jared standing there gaping like a landed fish.
When Jensen walked out of the bathroom, Travis called over to him, “Hey, Jensen, the food you wanted is packed up and ready to go.” Shooting a friendly smile at both of them.
“Thanks, Trav, you’re a superstar.” Jensen beamed and said to Jared, “I organized some sandwiches and stuff to take out to the lake. My main man, Travis here, makes the best roast beef on sourdough on the planet.”
“Yeah, yeah, you big suck-up,” Travis laughed then said, “You two go on and have a great time.”
The whole thing left Jared with an unsettled feeling. They said their goodbyes to everyone and as they left Jared looked back and sure enough, Travis was scowling at him again. When Jensen saw the frown on his face he asked, “Hey, you okay? Was the breakfast not good?”
“No, the breakfast was fine; great actually,” he said while sliding into the passenger seat.
“What’s up?”
“Nothing, I just don’t think Travis likes me very much.”
“Travis? What makes you think that? The guy’s as friendly as they come.”
“It’s nothing, probably just my imagination.” He shrugged.
“You sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah, I’m good.” He leaned over and brushed their lips together earning him another big grin from Jensen and Travis got pushed to the back of his mind by the brightness of Jensen’s smile.
They spent the day hiking, swimming and relaxing in each other’s company. It had been years since Jensen felt so comfortable in a lover’s company, everything with Jared was just easy and he found himself wanting to know everything there was to know about him. They talked about their families and Jared had him cracking up over the antics of his older sister when they were growing up and Jensen told him all about his two younger brothers who were identical twins and how much mischief they’d caused when each pretended to be the other to fool teachers, friends and on one occasion, local law enforcement. Jensen learned that Jared was born and bred in North Carolina and had grown up here in Durham and he told Jared how he’d moved here from Ohio to study dance and choreography at Duke.
“So you majored in dance?”
“Sure did.”
“Well that explains the amazing routine you performed. Can I ask...?”
“Why I’m stripping and not doing professional dance?”
“Well yeah.”
“I told you I started doing this to earn money during college. My original goal was the theater but I had an accident and tore my anterior cruciate ligament. I had surgery and rehab and even though it’s not usually a career ender, it was bad – real bad – and my knee’s never been the same. I can still dance but I couldn’t do it full time anymore.”
“Shit, Jensen, I’m so sorry. That must’ve been incredibly hard to deal with, but you could teach or do choreography still couldn’t you?”
“Yeah, I could but it’s strange you know. All my life all I ever wanted to do was dance and after the accident and all, I dunno, I just didn’t feel it anymore and then I fell in love with the coffee shop – as weird as that might sound – and eventually my dreams changed. Don’t get me wrong, I still love to dance but I want something else now. I want to take that place and build on it, make it something different, you know, like the art thing. Make a place where up and comers can get their work seen. That place is everything I didn’t know I wanted until I got hurt. Does that sound weird?”
Jared crawled up until he was straddled over the gorgeous man beneath him and looked into the sparkling green eyes. “No it doesn’t, not at all. I can see how much you light up when you talk about the place and I think anything that makes you that happy has to be a good thing. Plus it’s already a great place and your plans sound pretty damn good. It’s gonna be amazing.” He leaned down and kissed Jensen slow and deep. “Stay with me tonight? We can grill some steaks on the deck, watch a movie and I dunno, make out some more or do you have to work?”
“Not working this weekend and yeah, all that sounds like a plan, especially the making out part or you know, we could have an encore of Thursday night; see if you can last longer than two minutes this time.” He laughed as Jared shoved his shoulder.
“That was so not my fault and if I recall you went off pretty quickly yourself.”
“Guess we both have something to prove then huh? Think you’re up to the challenge?”
“Bring it, baby.”
----------------------------------------------
When they were back at the house and Jared came back in from the kitchen with a couple of cold beers, Jensen was wandering around looking over the bookshelves and picking up photo frames. Jared saw him checking out a photo that he still had out of him and Dillon standing shirtless and dripping wet, they had their arms thrown over each other's shoulder, with grins a mile wide.
"Is this your ex?"
"Yeah, Dillon. That was a vacation we took a few years ago, we went white water rafting."
"You still keep the picture out, does that mean you're still on friendly terms?"
"Yeah, we're friends. It took a while 'cause it hurt, you know, but he was a huge part of my life for the longest time. The day when that picture was taken is a really happy memory. Does it bother you that I have the picture on display?"
"God, no! Not at all."
"You didn't stay friends with, what was his name, Stephen?"
Jensen's face immediately clouded over and then Jared watched as he shut down. "No, it ended really badly."
Not wanting to spoil what had so far been an awesome day, Jared decided to move on to safer territory. He leaned forward to kiss the thunderclouds from Jensen's face. "Let's not talk about exes tonight, how handy are you with a grill? Do you want to cook the meat or make the salad?"
Jensen visibly relaxed, took the beers from Jared's hands and placed them on the coffee table before tackling him to the sofa and kissing him breathless. "I distinctly remember as well as the promise of food, you said you could last longer than two minutes when I suck you." His mouth formed a little smirk at Jared's hitched breath, the tension he was feeling completely forgotten as pulled off Jared's shorts and swallowed him down.
After a day of swimming, hiking and eating, they sat on the steps of the back deck watching Cinder and a little stray Jared had found chase each other around the backyard, feeling sated and a little worn out. Jensen had settled himself into the vee of Jared's legs with his head resting on the other man's shoulder, it had been a long time since he'd felt so content. He marveled at how right everything felt with Jared, the man was so easy-going and so quick to smile and laugh. Stephen had had such a serious personality and with hindsight he could see that as much as he'd loved Stephen, and he had with all of his heart, things were rarely lighthearted and fun but he'd been happy anyway. And then of course everything went completely to shit far worse than he could ever imagine and his life had spiraled into hell.
"What are you thinking about?"
"Hmm?"
"You looked a million miles away."
He chuckled, pushing the dark memories of that time far to the back of his mind. "Just thinking about how nice it is being here with you and what an awesome day this has been."
"You still gonna stay the night?"
Jensen shuffled around until they were facing one another and then Jensen was straddling Jared's lap. He leaned in and kissed him, tugging at his bottom lip lightly with his teeth.
"Definitely."
After doing a cursory clean up and getting the dogs settled it was still relatively early. Jared locked up the house and them approached Jensen who was standing at the kitchen sink drinking a glass of water. He fitted himself to the man's back, circling his arms around him, giving his ear a nibble.
"So, you wanna watch a movie or something?"
"Or something," Jensen moaned, tilting his head to give better access.
"I was kinda hoping you'd say that." Jared turned Jensen in his arms to face him and plundered his mouth, rocking his hips and eliciting a gasp from his partner who he could feel hardening from the friction.
"Shall we take this to the bedroom?"
They stumbled down the hall removing pieces of clothing every time they managed to separate their lips, clumsily knocking artwork on the walls askew and almost tripping over the hall runner. When they reached the bed, Jensen shoved Jared and he bounced on the mattress laughing and reached out to pull him down too. He sat back on his heels and took in the view. Jared was like a work of art with his long, tanned limbs and sculpted torso. Jensen worked with beautiful men all the time but the man, flat on his back in front of him could have given any one of them a run for their money, hell he was far better looking than some of the dancers from the clubs Jensen worked in and he couldn't wait to have him in every way possible. So far it had been hand and head jobs but tonight he wanted it all.
“So um, how do you wanna do this? I’m a switch hitter so...do you normally top or bottom?”
“Uh, neither?”
“Oh God, I’m moving too fast aren’t I? Sorry”
“No no, it’s cool, I'm definitely down with that. It’s just...neither.”
“You mean either?” Jensen didn’t want to point out that Jared’s poor grasp of the English language was weird for someone normally so eloquent.
“No I mean I haven’t, you know, done either.”
“What?! You mean you’re a virgin? But you said you were with Dillon for six years!”
“God, of course I’m not a virgin, we had sex all the time, just not...like that.”
“Seriously? You’ve never had penetrative sex?”
“Um, no.” Jared flushed at the admission and even though Jensen thought it made him look even more gorgeous, he was utterly gobsmacked.
“How is that even possible when you were in a long term relationship? You’ve had other boyfriends right?”
“Dillon was the first guy I was ever with and he didn’t ...he wasn’t into that, so we just didn’t. There’s more to sex than penetration you know, we had a great sex life!” Jared felt himself getting a little defensive.
“And you’ve never, with anyone else?”
“I’ve been out on a few dates since we broke up and we had...other kinds of sex, like you and I did after the club.”
“So does that mean you never want to?”
“It's not like I’ve never thought about it but Dillon wasn’t into it and I didn’t want him to do anything that he was uncomfortable with so we just didn’t."
"Um okay, well this is kind of a big deal, I can wait until you feel ready."
"Jesus, Jensen, I'm 26 years old, I'm about as ready as I'm ever going to get. I mean I'm not getting this wrong am I? We have something good happening don't we?"
"You're absolutely not wrong, this isn't a fling for me, I really care about you, I want a relationship."
"Good, then we're on the same page. I want this...with you."
"Well alright then, if you're sure. I think maybe I should bottom for your first time. We can try it lots of ways and you can decide what you like, we have all the time in the world, alright? If there's something you're uncomfortable with or that you don't like then we don't have to do it. When - if - you decide you want to me to top then we will, and if you don't enjoy it that way, then I'll bottom, no pressure, I'm cool either way."
"Sounds good to me. Uh, I know the mechanics of everything, I've watched porn but you might have to guide me a little, I don't want to hurt you or to suck at it. I should have told you from the start I guess, I'm sorry that you're stuck with someone inexperienced with this sort of thing, but seriously, I'm great at lots of other stuff." He waggled his eyebrows.
Jensen huffed out a laugh. "Yeah, you suck like a damn Hoover! If giving head was an Olympic sport, you'd get gold every time. I really don't mind you know, I'm just kind of blown away by it. It's hard to wrap my head around the fact that you were with someone for so long and never even tried this. I'm kinda thrilled that I'm going to be your first."
"Well you'd best get that perky little ass of yours down here so we can get this show on the road." He grabbed Jensen and rolled them until he was on top. "I've been thinking about getting you naked all damn day."

My illness won't go away but I'm hoping they can level my meds out so that I'm not having such serious pain times. It's usually a little more manageable.

Date: 2014-04-07 02:14 pm (UTC)On a personal note, I have a long-term illness too so I can totally empathise and I hope that your meds get sorted out and can help you more.

Date: 2014-04-07 03:13 pm (UTC)I'm sorry to hear you're ill as well. It can be really tough at times. My meds are being changed tomorrow so I'm hoping that will help me control the pain a lot better so I can focus on writing again. It's hard to feel creative when you feel like hell. Writing normally helps take my mind off my pain but the last few months have been brutal.
Thanks for sticking with both stories, it's really appreciated x

Re: XD
Date: 2014-04-08 04:59 pm (UTC)Poor Jared is such a sweet guy and the people around Jensen really seem to be picking on him don't they. and with Travis, Jensen is totally oblivious. Don't worry, you'll meet someone in the next chapter who might make Jensen want to run and hide ;) Plus there'll be some hot boy lovin' which is always fun!
Thanks for the well wishes honey, smishes you xx
