Lia is an amazing writer, and an incredibly lovely person. It's devastating to know she is going through so much.
The health system in the US frankly scares the shit out of me. Unfortunately, our demented PM wants to move our health system in line with the American model, which is as terrifying as it is stupid. I'm so grateful for our Medicare system. Here, absolutely anyone can receive excellent medical care for free, or at least for affordable out of pocket costs, unless the treatment is experimental. The additional burden of having to work while so ill, just to ensure that you have insurance to cover life saving treatment is frightening. I hope we can raise enough money to ease her burden.
