The only reason I wanted a collar was so that she wouldn't be mistaken for one of the innumerable strays in my area. Hardly anyone has bothered to have their cats neutered so there's always an overabundance of strays. It breaks my heart.

Pixel never chases birds but she's taken down many mice and rats and although I hate the thought of them being killed, it's actually saved Pixel's bacon. An owner of one of the apartments in my building - who doesn't even live here mind you - was checking out the property, as he does with annoying regularity, and complained to the strata about Pixel being outside. He demanded that they force me to get rid of her. They wrote me a letter saying she had to kept inside 24/7 or she had to go.

Normally I'd have no problems with making her an inside cat but my apartment is the size of a shoebox. It seemed cruel to confine her to such a small space. I was preparing for the fact that I would have to move because there was no way in hell I was giving her up and I bitched about it to a neighbour. She was on the committee and she rallied the only other on-site owner occupier and confronted the strata saying that nobody who lived in the building had a problem with Pixel and that she was, in fact, getting rid of all of the rodents and saving them from having to pay for exterminators. Yippee, she's official rat catcher now :)
