[livejournal.com profile] skeletncloset came up with this meme and it sounded like fun, so here goes.

1. I'm related to Rick Springfield.

2. I saved a famous Australian drag queen/musical theatre star who was being bashed, right in front of my building. I now count him as a friend.

3. I live in a country with some of the best beaches in the world but I can't swim.

Learn to swim! You never know when the boat's gonna sink!

Also, good for you--and him!

I have no comment on Rick Springfield, other than he's cute and seems nice. So do you!

I have tried to learn to swim a number of times but I really suck at it. The guy I saved ended up knowing a bunch of my friends, it was all quite strange. I was so jumped up on adrenaline I didn't even think twice but I went a little green around the gills when the cops told me the mugger had stabbed someone earlier in the evening.

Yeah, Rick Springfield, nothing much to comment on really, lol.

No they didn't unfortunately. He stabbed someone that same night and Trevor was his third mugging of the night. The description we gave was relatively vague - just height, build and skin colour - oh and a tattoo. It was 2am so I couldn't see his face at all. Plus my focus was on him kicking his victim in the head, I was more concerned about stopping it and getting an ambulance than I was on getting a really good look. According to my neighbours I pretty much roared like a lion. I am woman, hear me rawwwr!

No wonder we're friends. Women kicking ass and taking names EVERYWHERE.

I bet the attacker was thrown for a loop. Did he run as soon as he saw you?

That's cool that you can say you're related to someone famous. I don't think I have any famous relatives. It's awesome that you saved someone and it's impressive that you were able to step up and defend him!

Ha..related to Rick Springfield?! I used to have such a crust on him. :))

And that bashing must have been horrible. Good for you for helping him out.

You're an Aussie and can't swim?! I wouldn't have thought those two words could go together..;D

It was a guy high on something and his girlfriend (who ironically was begging him to stop). It happened on the sidewalk right outside my bedroom window. I heard the victim yell for help and jumped out of bed to see what was happening. Trevor was on the ground and the guy was kicking him in the head.

I roared out the window that the cops were coming and then ran out of the building like a mini tornado, screaming my lungs out - I think the words dead meat and fucker may have been part of what I was yelling. The attacker thought I was some kind of lunatic but it worked, they ran off. I'm only 5'3 but apparently I'm loud ;) I got the poor guy inside while I called emergency services.

I had absolutely no idea who the victim was but the next day I got the biggest bunch of flowers ever and tickets to his show. His phone number was in the card so I called to see how he was doing and found we had a lot of friends in common (two were in the band in his show!). We're friends now and he's just so sweet. Although he was so shaken up, he moved. We lived in the same street.

We women are tough cookies :D

I just can't sit by like my neighbours did and do nothing. I'm not brave, I was just so angry! I mean, who kicks someone in the head?

He was pretty cute in the eighties!

I hate violence, it makes me sick to my stomach. It made even sicker that all the neighbours heard the poor guy screaming for help yet I was the only one to go to his aid, and the only one who called the police. That is seriously wrong.

I know, being an Aussie who can't swim is really pathetic!

I wouldn't go THAT far! I guess being a woman made me more inclined to help, we are so often the victims so we would hope someone would help us. I think being an ex doorbitch of a nightclub - I've seen a lot of aggression and I don't scare that easily. I'll admit I was really shaken afterward but I was never really in any danger myself. They ran off from my shouting.

((hugs you back))

PS: Now that I'm on tumblr, I'm getting to see all the pretty you post, it's lovely!

LOL. DUDE didn't know what hit him. Poor girl. He probably beats her too. Men like that aren't men. I just don't get it. At all. I don't get where all the violence comes from.

Yeah, he most likely does beat her. It was really confusing when I was woken by the screams, I could here a man screaming for help but I could also hear a woman sobbing and yelling, "please stop, please don't do this". In the seconds it took me to get to the window, I thought it was a couple being attacked. The guy seriously looked like a raging animal, he was beyond vicious. The bashing was totally unnecessary because the victim literally threw his wallet at the guy, we found it on the ground when I was walking the cops through what happened and where. The man was beaten and kicked multiple times in the head AFTER he gave the mugger what he wanted.

Wow you're related to Rick Springfield - love Jesse's Girl, it brings back many happy memories for me!

I'm so pleased you stepped up and helped the guy who was being assaulted, more people should be like you. It's nice that you became friends after. The pic looks like it's from one of my fave films, Priscilla Queen of The Desert!

And you're Australian and can't swim? Next you'll be telling me you don't like Vegemite! No stereotypes here!

Hope you're doing okay :)

We aren't closely related, he's my mother's second cousin but it always gave me a bit of a thrill in the eighties. Like every girl on the planet back then I had a crush on him too ;P

The guy I rescued played Miss Understood in the Australian stage version of Priscilla Queen of the Desert. I am friends with a few people that were involved with the show, the beautiful Daniel Scott who played Adam/Felicia who we tragically lost in April, my best friend Dave who played drums on the cast soundtrack and a few others. I didn't recognise Trevor when I went to his aid because he was just in his street clothes and I had never met him.

I know, an Australian who can't swim is blasphemy! I do like Vegemite, I grew up on the stuff. Don't tell anyone, but I actually prefer Marmite ;)

Oh wow that was a bit crazy of you but very admirable! I'm not sure I'd have leapt out of the house like that, I'd probably have called the cops and cowered. I don't know - it's hard to say how you will react until the adrenaline starts pumping, isn't it!

I was never close to the guy and he was already running by the time I got out of the door. Obviously my fishwife screaming jolted him into running ;p I was nervous getting the victim inside and was extremely aware of my surroundings. I'm really not sure what I would have done had he come back to attack, probably turn tail and bolt, IDEK. But then again, after working the door in a nightclub when I was younger and being threatened numerous times, I learned to put up a kind of bravado I didn't actually feel. I think it protected me more often than not, when they saw someone as tiny as me getting all up in their face I think they thought I had a weapon stashed or something because I really am too small not act intimidated so when I didn't, they mostly backed down.

I also didn't know that you were a fellow Aussie! I was just talking with Meus_Venator and when I said I was from Oz she mentioned that you were too and that you were always keen to meet fellow Aussie LJ'ers. So I thought I'd come across and wave at you from down in Melbourne! :)
And good on you for getting involved when you saw that bashing. So many people just assume somebody else will do it...

Hi, I had no idea you were an Aussie! I love how there are no borders on livejournal but it's great when you find others that are kind of in your neighbourhood. I'm really glad meus_venator pointed you in my direction, she's a sweetie.

I'm in Sydney, (Well at this very moment I'm in Canberra freezing my arse off visiting my mum, with only smart phone internet connection) but Sydney is home. *waves hello back*
