Hi all

I'm so sorry haven't had an opportunity to get online in the past few days. Mum has been released from the hospital. They allowed her to come home as I could be with her 24/7 and they thought she would be more comfortable. She has some of the most horrendous bruising I've ever seen, so bad that it made me cry. Both of her breasts are completely black, blue and and deep red from the extensive bleeding. One breast has swollen to almost twice the size of the other. She's a very busty woman so the damage looks horrific. The bruising continues around her rib cage on one side and all the way down her sternum and under both breasts. Her sternum is cracked right down the middle but the bone is not displaced which is a blessing. Thank goodness for really good nurses. The nurse who came on duty on the evening shift took one look at the severe swelling and called in half the doctors in the hospital. Nobody had taken into account that she is on blood thinners. Because of that nurse, mum got some reasonable pain relief. They are worried about the high possibility of pneumonia as mum is in so much pain she is shallow breathing and her oxygen sats were very low. When I took her back to the hospital today for a follow up they actually quadrupled the dosage as the specialist felt it was insufficient and mum was suffering much more than necessary.

They've told us it'll take around eight weeks to heal so I'm going to have to relocate here for a while to not only take care of her but to take over all of the crap associated with the government forcing mum out and bulldozing her home due to the current asbestos crisis. What a mess. As if the stress of losing her home of 38 years and being paid less than it is worth wasn't enough, this had to happen.

Her car is a write off and I don't have one because I live in the inner city in Sydney where having a car is more of a nuisance. The city mum resides in is impossible to live in without a car. The bus service is sporadic at best and even though it's our capital city, it's more like a massive country town so without a car you just can't get around. I was close to breaking point yesterday. Just to fly here and the cabs I had to catch for the first couple of days has cost me around $500 which means I have to ask my landlord for an extension on my rent. I had to walk 3/4 of a mile in 39 degree heat (102 degrees fahrenheit) just to pick up her prescriptions and with my health I knew I couldn't keep doing that - it damned near killed me - and neither of us could afford the cab fares to ferry mum back and forth. It was going to cost another $500 to rent a car for two weeks and neither of us had the money. I was close to just sitting in the middle of the floor and bawling. Then the wonderful people who live next door came to the rescue yesterday afternoon. They'd just returned from their Christmas holidays and were devastated that mum was hurt. They talked to their eighteen year old son who is away on vacation and he offered us his car for two weeks until he returns. He's such a sweet boy. Mum and I are both on disability and although we both have our homes, neither of us have any cash to spare so borrowing his car has saved our bacon. So now I just need to find a cheap car to replace mum's little old bomb. Her car was insured (thank God), though only for a small amount because it was really old. At least it will give us some money toward getting another car for her, and if we're lucky we might find something relatively decent without having to come up with too much more than the insurance. She just needs to be able to get from A to B so all she needs is for it to be reliable. I've found a couple of possibilities online that I'm going to go take a look at in a few days when I feel it's okay to leave mum alone for a couple of hours.

Tomorrow morning is the interview with the police and of course the other driver has lied through her teeth. Because mum is elderly, they think she's a doddery old lady and immediately assumed the fault was hers and that is their official determination (I'm intending on lodging a dispute). As the young girl who smashed into mum left no skid marks whatsover on the road, she obviously never even used the brakes. I'm betting there was a cell phone involved and I'm going to request that the police check to see if there were any text messages sent or received around that time. Even the tow truck driver said the damage indicated she was hit at a higher speed than the speed limit. I'm pretty pissed that the cops haven't investigated. When I spoke to them today they didn't even know mum was injured, even though she was taken by ambulance from the scene and her car was spun 180 degrees into a pole and totalled. It doesn't give me confidence in the police at all. I gave them a bollocking after the young constable said she briefly spoke to mum in the ER and she had seemed shaken but alright. She hadn't been x-rayed yet, she was in shock and in an enormous amount of pain. I don't know how they came to the conclusion she wasn't injured when she hadn't been treated yet, only triaged. I guess consciousness equates to perfectly okay in their eyes and wet behind the ears cops are now diagnosticians. Incompetent idiots.

It's all very stressful and it's killing me to see mum in so much pain, but it could have been so much worse, so for that I'm really thankful. Thank you all for the messages of support, we both really appreciate it. Your concern has bouyed us both so much. Love you all xx

I finally managed to get a flight and I'm at the airport waiting to board. About 40 minutes ago we got the results of the various X-rays and CT scans. Thankfully her ribs are not broken but she does have a fractured sternum from the seatbelt. She had a very old car so there were no airbags. Apparently she has quite substantial bruising which is only going to worsen over the next three to four days.

She's resting relatively comfortably even though the hospital staff are being dicks about pain relief. She's allergic to codeine and oxycodone makes her violently ill so all they are giving her is acetaminophen which just isn't good enough. I would imagine there must be some other options but they are not giving her any.

Thank you for all of your messages. I'll check in when I can. Boarding has been called so I've gotta go.

I'll be offline for who knows how long. I just got a call from the hospital where mum lives. She's been in a pretty bad car crash. Some idiot who was speeding through a red light ploughed into the side of her car as she was turning. She's conscious but they think, at minimum, she has broken ribs. I won't know any more until I get there.

I'm just trying to organise a flight down which is turning out to be really hard given the time of year. Will update when I know something.

I made a new schmaltzy, corny banner for my journal. Well I made a couple of versions so I may have to rotate them. Fa la la la la!

Oh Man, I want one of these so bad! Although I fear I would get nothing else done while I played with it endlessly.

Dear Santa...

There are currently approximately fifteen hostages being held by a gunman in a cafe in central Sydney city, around 3km from where I live. It's thought that there were around twenty people inside and they were taken hostage at 10am, it's now almost 9pm. Five people, have managed to escape since 4pm although the police are refusing to say whether they escaped or were released. The police have finally managed to get the gunman to speak to their negotiator but have stated that he still hasn't revealed his reasons or demands. He did however force several of the hostages to call at least one television station and a radio station although there has been a blanket ban on them releasing any information. He has told the police that none of the hostages have been harmed so far. A black flag with white Arabic writing, in what looks like a home made version of the Islamic Black Standard flag has been pressed to the window. There's been a lot of speculation but it's impossible to know if this is terrorist related or if it's just some nutcase pretending to be Muslim.

The Lindt Cafe is popular, both with tourists and office workers, I've been there more there once as they serve the best hot chocolate in town. The cafe is usually really busy all day so I guess it's fortunate that there weren't a lot more people involved. It's terrifying to think that all of these people had gone in for morning tea and a madman with a pump action shotgun trapped them all. Automatic weapons would be incredibly difficult to obtain in Australia, and so far the only weapon seen has been the shotgun, but he is also carrying a backpack so who knows if it contains some kind of home-made bomb. He's been using hostages as human shields whenever he has been anywhere near a window. I'm not even sure if people in the surrounding business and offices are still trapped as they were all ordered, earlier in the day, to stay indoors but the upper levels of the building have all been evacuated, slowly and a stealthily as possible, by emergency crews with ladders.

Things like this happen so rarely in Australia, thank God, so we are all reeling. It gives me hope that this might end without any loss of life because five people have managed to escape and the hostages have been seen being given food. I'm really hoping this means the gunman wants to make a statement of some kind, and that he doesn't intend to hurt anyone. We can only hope.
I still can't believe this is happening.

Ambivalent.

Don't get me wrong I didn't dislike the episode. I do, however, feel that it was not even remotely close to being mid-season finale material. This is how I felt about the season opener; a good episode if it wasn't one of the major episodes of the season.

I just wrote this as a response elsewhere and everything that niggled me about it fell into place.

Food porn!

I saw this over on Twitter and sniggered like a thirteen year old schoolboy. It came with the caption, "Do you think these are safe to eat?" I responded with, "They'd probably taste like ass." Which got me favorited by someone called Captain Ass Eater O.o

And the mushroom pick-up probably went like this...

Mushroom one: "Hey there big boy, want to play?"

Mushroom two: "Sure why not, you look like a fungi!"

Yeah, yeah...groan.

EDIT: And now, because [livejournal.com profile] meus_venator made me, I posted a short mushroom porn ficlet here over at [livejournal.com profile] j2_crack. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I wrote fungus porn.

Sam - art

This is something I've been working with on and off for a month or so. I draw pathetically slowly. I decided to try something a little different and this is what happened. I was inspired by a painting of Sam by the wonderfully talented [livejournal.com profile] vongue. I liked her use of shading and the brown colour palette, and thought I'd give heavy shading with a palette of browns, black, and white a go. I'm not sure I was very successful, but...*shrugs* I kept playing with it and changing stuff and every time I look at it I see something else that needs fixing. I decided I was never going to be completely happy with it and declared it done. I wanted something stark that emphasised his exotic features, with really obvious paint strokes, but now I think he kind of looks like a vampire. I don't think white was a good choice, lol!

I love him with facial hair but it truly is a bitch to work with so I think I'm going to have him clean-shaven next.

Sorry about the enormous and intrusive signature but so many people keep getting their art nabbed and their signatures cropped off. My source photo was this promo pic from from the TV Guide Comic Con cover.
reggie11: (Default)

1. SAM, SAMMY, SAAAAAAAAM!

2. I feel like I should say Castiel, but I'm going to go with Zachariah. He was one of the best villains on the show.

3. This was a close call. I loved Meg, but I'm going to have to go with Ruby 2.0. She was so deliciously manipulative and Genevieve played it in such a way that even we, as viewers, didn't recognise the real depths of her deception until the final moment of the reveal. It was totally plausible the way she conned Sam.

4. This one is remarkably hard. I loved Gordon and thought he was twisted enough to be considered evil. Lucifer was a fab villain. Zachariah was too. But it has to go to Alistair.

5. Another hard one. Even though season 4 broke me into itty bitty pieces, I loved it, and season 2 will always be on the top of my list.

6. Swan Song is my ultimate fave but it's very closely followed by Mystery Spot because, Jesus Christ, that episode gave me emotional whiplash. I went from laughing like a crazy person to feeling like someone reached in and ripped my heart clear out of my chest. The End is butting up to them very close as well because it was phenomenal. And last but not least, I will always have a special place in my heart for The Man Who Knew Too Much because it was one of the only episodes that was pretty much mostly from Sam's POV instead of Dean's, and Sam choosing to take on memories of the cage to help Dean, gah!

7. Sam/Dean is my OTP. I also love Sam/Kevin. Of the show ships I'll say Sam/Madison, Meg/Castiel, and Sam/Ruby, Dean/Lisa. The one ship I can't see at all no matter how much I squint is Dean/Castiel.

8. I love Luci!!

9. I was going to say Metatron but I think the character had us feeling exactly like we were supposed to so in that sense he's a good antagonist. I don't really have any characters that I would say I hated their inclusion on the show but I never really took much of a shine to Balthazar or Gabriel, and more often than not I found Jo irritating. I couldn't stand Amelia for her first few appearances, but my attitude toward her softened a little. So, any of those or all of them? I dunno.

10. This one is incredibly hard because there have been a number of actors that I've adored. I'm not sure if this means anyone who is not one of the two major leads, or if it means small roles. So to cover both bases, I think my number one would have to be Jim Beaver for the first. His Bobby was a fabulous addition to the show and I still miss him terribly. And Rob Benedict as Chuck for the latter. And even though I'm not a John fan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was awesome as John Winchester.

11. "I had a crappy guidance counselor" grabbed me so much I have it on my journal banner, but my all time fave is "My daddy shot your daddy in the head." God, I loved Sam possessed by Meg!

Wheeee!!!

I got my very first choice for art in the [livejournal.com profile] spn_reversebang and I'm SO excited! It's utterly gorgeous! A massive thank you goes out to [livejournal.com profile] meus_venator who acted as my proxy because my computer kept crashing. She was so quick off the mark.

I can't wait to find out who the artist is, they are insanely talented! Please, come introduce yourself so I can shower you in confetti and tell you how wonderful you are. I'll do my best to write something worthy of your art.

*Does a happy dance!*

He and Joey are going to boost that big, shiny black car from the two dudes staying at the motel his mother manages, and then sell it. He has it all planned. The men are harmless, pansy-ass antiquers, so it's not like it'll be risky. It'll be just like stealing candy from a baby...

Author's Notes: This was written for a fabulous prompt from [livejournal.com profile] septembers_coda for this year's Summergen, in hopes of breaking the writer's block that has been plaguing me for far too long. Unfortunately, I left it until the very last minute, then had connection problems, and because I ended up rushing it, the posted story was absolutely chock-full of errors. Thank you, so much, to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] fufaraw who offered to beta the fic for me before I posted it here. You're a life saver, honey! More notes after the story.

If you haven't discovered the journal of [livejournal.com profile] heartsowild, you don't know what you're missing, I only chanced upon it myself in the past few days. This lovely lady had excellent front row seats at Torcon and took a bunch of truly fabulous photos. She was even lucky enough to be one of the few who were signing up for next year when Jensen made an impromptu return to the stage at the end of the night and played a couple of songs for the small remaining crowd, and managed to video all of it! She's been posting pics from various panels over the past couple of days so there's lots to see.

There are lots of scrumptious pics, (including some of the costume competition which looked like a hoot), anecdotes, and even some art of Jared and Jensen she had commissioned which put the biggest smile on my face...there may be stripping involved.

Not sure why ths hasn't been picked up by [livejournal.com profile] spnnewsletter because this is just the stuff I want to see more of. Do they list journals with con pics? Maybe not. I wish they would though, maybe it's something I could suggest.

Here's a small sample pics of what you'll find. What are you waiting for, go take a look.

It doesn't look like many people know about this journal because there aren't many comments. It's such a shame because it looks like she's been around for a while as there are photos from previous years. Maybe if you like what you see you can pimp it too :)

It's wild in Sydney tonight with massive storms, flooding, and gale force winds. It's the first time in a long time I've actually been scared of a storm. That might have something to do with the huge branch that came whipping down the street, to the accompaniment of car alarms and sirens, and have it smash into the bars on my living room window. Thank Chuck for the bars or it would have come crashing through the glass. Before I had the chance to run in and completely close my bedroom window, the wind blew a painting off the wall and knocked down everything on the dresser. Poor Pixel freaked out so bad I almost had to peel her off the ceiling.

There are trees and powerlines down all over the city, and in the nearby Blue Mountains, the town of Blackheath is blanketed in snow...and it's Spring. Hey, [livejournal.com profile] meus_venator, still want to come to Aus for a vacation? ;)

Here's what's happening around my hometown. PS: Now I have proof that Miley Cyrus is the antichrist - she turns up in Sydney and this shit happens...

This has to be one of the creepiest SPN fanvids I've seen. Even though we all watch the show and know the content, I'm still going to warn for disturbing imagery. This is Supernatural horror at its finest. Make sure that when you've finished watching you go over to Youtube and show the vidder some love.

I posted a hilarious GIF a little while ago and [livejournal.com profile] amber1960 said it looked like it was part of a longer video so I went on a search, and lo and behold I found it! Also NSFW, so it's under a cut again.
So without further ado, here is Wanted Melody.
